Government urged to accelerate rehabilitation process Of Rawalakot City Development Plan

The negligence and malpractices of concerned departments responsible for the delay of rehabilitation process should be brought to justice. Rawalakot City Development Plan should be started without any changes as per initial planning in order to redress the public greinveces and reservations. The alleged embezzlement and corruption in the SEERA, DRU, EERA and PMU and other related departments must be seriously noticed and enquired by the government through audit of development and none development expenditures of funds provided by world community for the rebuilding of quake hit areas of Azad Kashmir.

These views were expressed by different speakers in an information sharing seminar jointly organized by Press for Peace (PFP) and Action Aid. Both organizations are working for the well being of people in the remote areas of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and NWFP region.

Abdul Sattar Khan, Project Director City Development Plan, Mubasshar Ahsan(DRU), Iftikhar Ferorz , President Traders Union, Azhar Nazar former Chairman Pearl Development Authority, Syyed Habib Hussain Shah, President Disctrict Bar Council, Raja Ejaz Advocate(PPP), Muhammad Haleem(JI), Sardar Qadeer(JKLF), Sardar Naeem Aslam , President District Press Club and PFP representative Raja Wasim, Aurangzeb, Safeer Raza spoke on the occasion.

The seminar concluded with a joint declaration which urged government to take action against those responsible of delay of reconstruction work of earthquake affected areas of Azad Kashmir, specifically in Rawalakot district.

“The construction of schools and colleges must be started without any postponement while the government should take notice of alleged poor construction of roads and wrongdoings in other projects in the area”, it further demanded.

The speakers demanded that the irregularities and misuse of funds in the NGOs and public sector institutions must be investigated through independent tribunal in order to bring transparency and good governance in the society. The government should develop policy with the consultation of people to acquire land and land holders should be paid their compensation amounts before the commencement of the all development projects.

Criticizing the performance of government over the rehabilitation, the participants of the seminar unanimously demanded that concerned departments for rebuilding process must share information with public to inform them about the latest progress of ongoing schemes and people should be invoked in the problems solving mechanisms.

Abdul Sattar Khan, Project Director City Development Plan informed the participants about the hardships faced by the government in rehabilitation process and said that the attainment of lands is the main impediment in the implementation of the projects as the government is facing immense resistance by the owners during the possession of earmarked lands. He urged upon people to cooperate with the government in the provision of lands so that the development projects could be completed in due period.
