KAC Condemns the assassination Attempt on Mr. Fazal Haq Qureishi

Washington, D.C. December 4, 2009. Dr. Ghulam Nabi Fai, Executive Director of the Kashmiri American Council/Kashmir Center, today harshly condemned the assassination

attempt on Mr. Fazal Haq Qureishi, a personal friend and the leader of the All Parties Hurrieyt Conference. The circumstances of the vile crimes expose the amorality of the person who could not be the friend of the people of Kashmir.

On December 4, 2009, Mr. Qureishi was critically injured by unidentified assailant while offering evening (Maghrib) prayers inside a mosque in Soura, Srinagar, [Capitol of Kashmir]. The assailant took refuge in hammer and iron rod. This was undoubtedly the most reprehensible act.

Dr. Fai said that terrorism is never acceptable no matter how seemingly urgent the political objective or how evil the opposition. Terrorism invariably corrupts the culprits and the common human rights of mankind. No political motivation justifies such terrorism against innocent civilians. The sole beneficiaries are those who prefer violence to peace, anarchy to civilization.

Dr. Fai emphasized that experience and human nature teach that violence begets violence and leads to nowhere, while dialogue and peaceful dissent based on universal democratic and moral principles marks the path of progress and success.

No nation gained by terrorism is worth having, Dr. Fai stressed. And no life that indulges in terrorism is worth living, he added.
