Site Location
Rawalakot is a mountainous area of Azad Kashmir. The site is in a mountainous area and the latitude is approximately 34 degrees north.
Site Topography
The allocated site area is about 56,800 sq.m. It is an irregular shape about 270 m. from east to west and about 200 m. from north to south. The site contours are relatively level along the north-south axis and slopes up from west to east. The main area that will be occupied by the hospital slopes by 7 m. which is equivalent to one and a half stories.
Site Master Planning
The site is zoned into three general areas. The main hospital zone, a staff residential zone and a zone for community facilities. The site is steep on the east-west axis and around the perimeter but is relatively flat on the north-south axis. The hospital zone is located in the central area of the site to take advantage of the relatively flat area on the north-south axis and the westerly aspect. The residential accommodation is adjacent to the hospital within the site security area but with its own access. Site security is often a key issue for female staff and their safety is an important planning issue. The main hospital plan is devised to separate the patients and visitors areas from the service areas, so as to avoid site congestion.
