SRINAGAR (IHK): In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyet leaders have welcomed the statement of the United States Commander-in-Chief of Central Command, General David Howell Petraeus that the settlement of the Kashmir dispute is vital to abolish terrorism. reports KMS.
The Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in a statement issued in Srinagar said that few months ago the Foreign Secretary of the Britain, David Milliband already made it clear before the world that Kashmir dispute was the seed of tension between India and Pakistan. “I appreciate and welcome the statement. It holds weight in the international community”, he added.
Senior Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani, while welcoming the assertion of General David Patraeus, said that it was a good sign to see the US having understood the importance of the Kashmir dispute. “Had this thought come to the US think-tank earlier, it would have saved many innocent lives”, he maintained.
The illegally detained senior APHC leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah in his statement while expressing happiness over the statement urged the US not to keep the promises confined to papers only. “We want to see change on the ground level. If the issue would continue to boil, then time is not far when both nations would end up with a nuclear war,” he stated.
Hailing the statement of the David Petraeus, the Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Muhammad Yasin Malik described it as realistic. He said that Barack Obama’s announcements during election campaign stressing the need to settle the conflict over Kashmir had raised hopes among the billions of people in the world including South Asia.
