STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE, "JIHAD" OR A "PROXY WAR" is Published

Dr Shabir Choudhry's new book 'Struggle for independence, "Jihad" or A "Proxy war" is published by Kashar Publishers, Mirpur; and co sponsored by Institute of Kashmir Affairs, London. The book has 245 pages, with a hard cover and good paper. The cover has a map of Kashmir from which blood is coming out, and a man in mask is pointing a gun at Kashmir; and there is a question mark about his identity. Baroness Emma Nicholson has written introduction to the book. The contents of the book and the introduction are appreciated by the people, especially nationalist Kashmiris. Foreign Missions in Islamabad have also shown some interest in the book and many books have been despatched to them. Baroness Emma Nicholson in her introduction wrote: 'It is an honour to introduce Dr Shabir Choudry's latest collection of articles on the future of Kashmir, one of the most dangerous and important conflict areas in the world. Dr Choudry has worked tirelessly for nearly thirty years promoting peace, stability, human rights and democracy in the region.. He has become a leading authority on the Kashmiri struggle and I hope that this new collection of articles will contribute to a vital end to this tragic dispute that has cost the region around 80,000 lives and immeasurable misery for the past 60 years. As a Parliamentarian my greatest concern is for greater democracy, human rights, the rule of law and fundamental freedoms in all parts of Kashmir. The Kashmiri people deserve to enjoy the fruits of democracy and to live in peace and harmony, able to practise what they believe in with dignity and honour. I have worked closely with Dr Choudry towards these goals and his expertise has been invaluable to my work on Kashmir. Thanks in part to the insightful input and evidence from Dr Choudry and other eminent academics, my report for the European Parliament's Committee on Foreign Affairs, 'Kashmir: present situation and future prospects', was adopted as a resolution by the European Parliament with an overwhelming majority in May 2007.
